WHEN it comes to toilets, women have some strange habits.
The average lady will powder her nose accompanied by at least one good friend.
She will spend an inordinate amount of time in the rest room talking and adjusting her make-up. But did you know that if the ladies' loos don't come up to scratch, their occupants will pick up their handbags and quickly depart? Research carried out by a University of Glamorgan Business student shows that while cheap drinks might seem attractive, the quality of the toilets will be the deciding factor.
However men are generally not as fussy about the quality of the facilities - preferring to concentrate on the quality of the opposite sex. MSc marketing student Scott Parfitt, Monogram Denim Handbags 24, from Pontypridd, has worked as a licensed doorman for a number of years in Cardiff and decided to look at the marketing potential for clubs, pubs and bars for his dissertation.
The punters' need for a cheap pint came as no surprise, but the fact that the toilets feature so prominently in the minds of female clientele showed a gap between what the industry thought their customers wanted and what they actually need for a good night out.
Mr Parfitt explained that his research showed there is a need for drastic improvements in toilet facilities as most city centre loos were deemed to be dirty, and lacking basic items such as toilet tissue.
``Women can be put off from entering an establishment with poor facilities. Men also identified a need for improved facilities, but suggested that poor facilities would not put them off, because `the sink is also an option' according to one person questioned.'' One woman who took part in Mr Parfitt's study owned up to taking her own toilet paper with her on a night out, as she couldn't rely on there being any in the pub.
Air conditioning was also an issue for women, as standing in a hot, sticky pub put them off, especially in an overcrowded bar. But many women admitted that they were also thinking about the longevity of their hairstyles and make-up, as a sweaty brow can undo the work of even the best hair-straighteners.
The men's needs were a little more obvious.
Mr Parfitt said his study showed that, ``The single males within the
sample showed a strong interest in the number of females in a venue. This was a deciding factor on whether to enter.''
When asked the main reason for choosing a bar, one man responded, ``Women. That's why blokes go to bars, and for the drink. The classier the place, the classier the female population.''
So it seems that if pubs, clubs and bars are to attract any customers they must first get the ladies' toilets sorted, as the well-coiffed ladies will in turn attract the male drinkers.
And good music is also a requirement, as one man pointed out, ``Good music is a must because it gets Damier geant canvas Fake Handbags the women dancing and so I can work my magic on the dance floor.''
But the psychology of the dance floor must also be taken into consideration, as contrary to popular belief, not all women are confident Dancing Queens.
``I hate it when the dance floor is in the middle and everybody just stands on the outside and gawps at you,'' said one woman. ``It feels as though you're in a meat market and you're putting yourself on disp
